Vigilance claims enough evidence against arrested SDO

Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the IAS Officers’ Association questioned the procedure adopted to arrest the SDO Mohania, Dr Jitendra Gupta, a 2013 batch IAS officer, the Vigilancce Investigation Bureau has
justified the action.

“A driver on contract and a homeguard jawan do not have guts to detain trucks for so many days and demand Rs 80,000 for their release,” goes the Vigilance argument.

“Why was seizure list not prepared and trucks kept in wating for 10 days,” asked a VIB official. He claimed that due procedure was followed in the arrest of Dr Gupta.

He said the Vigilance delayed the raid by two hours on the pretext that the house of magistrate could not be raided in haste. “We did not raid it immediately or in huffry,” he said.

It remains a mystery as to why did the SDO, his driver and homeguard did not shift the incriminating documents from the official residence.

However, Dr Gupta, in his letter, charged the VIB officials with forcibly entering his house without any arrest and search warrant.

“I have not seized the said trucks or kept the same in my custody unofficially. I am also not aware as to how the paper which the Vigilance team claims to be papers of seized trucks, were recovered from the vehicles of DCLR since I use only my official vehicle of the SDO,” his letter said. He was holding the additional charge of Deputy Collector Land Reforms (DCLR).

But VIB sources said the papers were recovered from the rear of the front seat cover of the official DCLR car.

Dr Gupta seems to have fallen in well-laid down trap of VIB. The earlier demand was of Rs 90,000 but the final agreement was reached at Rs 80,000.

Some sources said that the IAS Officers’ Association is tryint to make it administration versus police tussle.

Meanwhile, the special vigilance court of Raghavendra Kumar Singh in Patna on Friday called for case dairy in the graft case against Dr Gupta, who had filed his bail petition before the court.

The court has fixed July 22 as the next date of hearing of this case. Thus he will have to remain in  Beur central jail at least till that date.
