Furniture shopowner arrested for making extortion call to PMCH superintendent

Patna,(BiharTimes): Police on Wednesday arrested Munna Sharma, a small time furniture shop owner, for making four calls between 9.15am and 10.20am on Tuesday to the superintendent of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) Dr Lakhendra Prasad  to demand Rs five lakh or face consequences.

The police arrested Munna late on Tuesday night (after 11 pm) after Dr Prasad lodged an FIR with Gandhi Maidan police station.

Munna is a resident of Naubatpur and wanted money to open a bigger shop. He got Dr Prasad’s phone number after a visit to PMCH for treatment.

According to the senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj he  was arrested near Gandhi Maidan after the police tracked his mobile tower location.

Incidentally, Munna is not associated with any hardened criminal gang.

However, the general secretary of Bihar Health Services Association, Dr Ranjit Kumar, accused the government of not providing proper security to the doctors. He said the Association had provided the health department a list of super-sensitive hospitals where armed police were needed to be deputed, but claimed that the government did not take notice of their demand.
