Rise in crime in spite of total prohibition in Bihar: SuMo

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi refuted the claim of chief minister Nitish Kumar that the crime rate has fallen after the imposition of total prohibition in Bihar on April 5 last.


Talking to the media after his Janata Darbar SuMo claimed that the figures of May show rise in number of cognizable offences in comparison to April 2016.

Citing the state government figures from its  official website, he said 16,208 cognizable offences were reported in May 2016 compared to 14,279 in April.


The rape cases went up by 29% from 61 in April to 79 in May. In all 209 murder cases were registered in May against 192 in April–– an increase of nine per cent.

According to the BJP leader 100 robbery cases were lodged in April, and the number went up to 154 in May––thus a rise of 54%. While 581 cases of kidnapping were reported in January 2016, 599 such cases were lodged in April and 638 in May.


He said the case of riots jumped from 809 to 1,372 and road robbery from 73 to 127. Thus the BJP leader said that prohibition has no direct relation with crime rate.
