Sacked Dalit widow cook reinstated in Aurangabad

Patna,(BiharTimes): The district magistrate of Aurangabad Kanwal Tanuj on Tuesday reinstated a Dalit widow as the cook of a school and also shared the mid-day meal prepared by her with the students.

He also suspended school headmaster Govind Kumar Yadav, who had sacked the cook after her husband died recently.

The district magistrate took the action after receiving a complaint from Urmila Kunwar, mother of four, who used to earn Rs 1,000 per month as cook.

Tanuj visited the Batura Middle School under Rafiganj block on Tuesday and ate the meal prepared by the widow at the school with other students.

The DM said that he wanted to send a strong message against social ills of distancing from widow. Departmental inquiry has been initiated against the headmaster on instruction from the DM to the district education officer Yaduvansh Ram.
