Bihar School Examination Board chairman may be arrested

Patna,(BiharTimes): Hours after a show-cause notice was served to him the chairman of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh resigned from his post on Wednesday.

There is likelihood that he may be arrested in connection with the topper scam as reports now suggest that the copies of students of Vishun Rai College of Vaishali district was separately evaluated at his behest.

Earlier on Tuesday, Special Investigation Team (SIT) interrogated Lalkeshwar, and seized some computers and hard disks. They would be examined by experts.

Lalkeshwar’s wife is a former JD(U) MLA and he had earlier served as the principal of Patna College.

Search is on to arrest the secretary-cum-principal of the Vishun Rai College, Amit Kumar alias Bacha Rai. It is from this College that both the Arts and Science toppers appeared.

Several clerks of the BSEB and Vihun Rai College have also been detained.

The two toppers have also been asked to appear.

Preliminary investigation by the SIT suggest irregularities in the results of the toppers in the Science and Arts examinations.

The case against the toppers was registered on Tuesday after chief minister Nitish Kumar ordered that an FIR be lodged and the matter be investigated.

According to the SHO of Kotwali police station Ramsh Prasad Singh, education department official Rajeev Ranjan Prasad Singh has lodged a case in the Kotwali police station in this connection.

A case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against Science toppers Saurabh Sreshtha, third topper Rahul Kumar and Arts topper Rubi Rai.

The exam centre of examinees of Vishun Rai College was GA High School, Hajipur, and the evaluation centre was set up in Patna’s Rajendra Nagar Boys High School.

The centre superintendent of GA High School is Kumari Shailja, who happens to be the sister of VR College secretary-cum-principal, Bachcha Rai. She has been interrogated.
