Mangal Pandey may get second term as state BJP chief

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bharatiya Janata Party is most likely to give next term to the present state unit chief, Mangal Pandey, as he not only enjoys the confidence of the party central leadership, but is also from a prominent uppercaste.

. As the party has substantial upper caste support it wants to ensure at least one top post to this social group.
In the last few years the party has given promotion to several backward castes’ leaders. The leader of opposition in the state Assembly and Legislative Council are Prem Kumar and Sushil Kumar Modi respectively.

The chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, is Nand Kishore Yadav, who was till late last year the leader of opposition in the state Assembly.
Sources said that among the upper caste leadership the party has fewer choices. They have big-mouthed leaders like Union minister of state for MSME, Giriraj Singh and Buxar MP, Ashwini Kumar Choubey. While the former is a Bhumihar the latter is a Brahmin. They are not considered as good organization men who can lead a team.
Other Bhumihar leaders like Dr C P Thakur and Bholoa Singh, both are 75-plus and were even not accommodated in the Narendra Modi cabinet.
So, sources said, the party has in principle decided to give second term to Mangal Pandey, though it is also true that it is under his leadership that the saffron party suffered humiliating defeat in the state Assembly election last year.
