Lalkeshwar, Usha produced before CJM court after brought from Varanasi without transit remand

Patna,(BiharTimes): After being brought from Varanasi on Tuesday former chief of Bihar School Examination Board Lalkeshwar Prasad Sinha and his wife, Usha Sinha, were produced before the court of Chief Judicical Magistrate in Patna. The court sent them to 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier in the day they were brought to Patna without procuring transit remand.

According to Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj the two were brought to Patna without the transit remand as the special investigation team in Varanasi could not procure it from the local court.

Transit remand enables police to shift an accused in custody from the place of arrest to the place where he or she is to be investigated.

The couple, accused in the toppers scam, were to be produced in a Patna court within 24 hours after their arrest.

As reported after a tip-off, a Bihar SIT team reached Varanasi late on Sunday night and contacted the district police.

Patna Police recorded their arrest at about 8 AM on Monday. However, it took nearly 11 hours for their production in the local court at Varanasi. By that time the court was closed.

The SIT could start their journey to Patna only on Tuesday morning.
