NCW starts probe into Bihar gang-rape case

Patna(BiharTimes):The National Commission for Women (NCW) has instituted an inquiry into the gang-rape of a 21-year-old woman in Bihar’s Motihari district, NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam said on Friday.

“A member of NCW is on her way to Bihar. The investigation will commence tomorrow. Our member will be speaking with the rape survivor, her family and the police,” Ms Kumaramangalam said.

Commission member Sushma Sahu, who is visiting Bihar, said, “I will speak to the gang-rape survivor and investigate why there was a delay on the part of the local police in filing an FIR.”

“How can the DIG say there has been an attempt to rape? That’s a very silly and irresponsible statement,” she said, adding, “If I find that the local police were slacking, then I will write to the Home Minister seeking suitable action.”

The woman was allegedly gang-raped last week when the accused persons stormed into her house and dragged her out at gunpoint in front of her parents and neighbours.

Meanwhile one of the accused of alleged rape case Samiullahsurrendered before the court on Friday. The victim girl reportedly severed the private part of Samiullah when earlier he tried to rape her.
