Nitish apologizes for JD(U) spokesman’s ‘dharti ke bojh’ remarks

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday apologised for the remarks made by Janata Dal (United) spokesman, Sanjay Singh, MLC.

On February 26 Sanjay Singh said in the Council that political leaders killed in the recent past in the state were “dharti ke bojh” (a burden on earth). He said so when the Opposition expressed concerns about law and order and killings of BJP vice-president Visheshwar Ojha, saffron party leader Kedar Singh, and LJP’s Brijnathi Singh.

Regrettting the statement the chief minister said such statements or words should not be used. “As a leader of the party and the Legislative Council, I also express my own regret over the issue,” he said in the Upper House.

Earlier, RJD MLC Ram Vachan Rai moved a special motion to wish the chief minister on his birthday. Members cutting across party lines–– including BJP’s Sushil Kumar Modi and former chief minister Rabri Devi––greeted him.

BJP MLC Lal Babu Prasad protested Sanjay’s comment in the House on February 26. Council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh pointed out that Sanjay's comment was expunged.

It is after this that SuMo said it is the chief minister’s birthday today. It is a good occasion and the environment here is good. “I request him to show large-heartedness and if the comment was objectionable then give directions to the member to tender an apology.”
In the Assembly, BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav wished Nitish the moment the chief minister entered. Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar, Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and several MLAs also greeted him.

MLAs of different parties went to his chamber in the Assembly and presented him bouquets.
