Death penalty law for making illicit liquor to be enacted soon: Bihar CM

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday that the Bihar government is bringing a Bill in the on-going session of the state Assembly to award capital punishment to those manufacturing illicit liquor once prohibition comes into effect from April 1.

Talking to the mediapersons in his chamber in the state Assembly Nitish said officials have told him that they have received over 200 applications so far for opening Sudha Dairy outlets in place of those selling liquor from across the state.

The chief minister is hopeful that many more applications would come in from different parts of the state.
Nitish further said a comprehensive campaign is on to convince those addicted to alcohol to give up drinking.

According to him more than 40 lakh volunteers, including members of self-help groups, are going from house to house to ask people to give up drinking. Students in 72,000 government schools in Bihar were given a declaration form which they have to get signed by their parents not to touch liquor.

De-addiction centres would be opened in every district, where boozers would undergo treatment, the CM said.
