A different Narendra Modi trip to Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Narendra Modi would be visiting Bihar for the first time when the chips of the Bharatiya Janata Party are reallydown.

Never since the Hunkar Rally trip to Patna on October 27 2013 the rank and file of the saffron party was so dispirited and demoralized as now.

In between that day and March 12, 2016 Narendra Modi addressed more three dozens public meetings in Bihar––first as prime ministerial candidate of the BJP and than the PM of the country. While in all these past visits NaMo used to speak from the position ofstrength for obvious reason––his party’s graph was on the upswing. It is to be seen how confidentally he speaks now when the party ispassing through one of the worst phases in Bihar since its formationin 1980.

Besides, the turnout and enthusiasm in the March 12 official functions would be closely watched. After all chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad would be monitoring the visit. They would not waste a moment to demand the fulfilment of all the promises made by the prime minister during the election campaign last year.

The prime minister is to attend the centenary celebration of Patna high court and inaugurate two mega-bridges on river Ganga. The one between Digha (Patna) and Sonepur (Saran) was already thrown open to the rail-traffic on February 3, 2016.

From political point of view the visit apparently has little significance as no election is going to take place in Bihar before 2019. The grand alliance government is firmly placed in the state and there is no scope for the BJP-led NDA to expect the fall of Nitish Kumar government in near future. So this would be the first such visit of Narendra Modi since June12-13, 2010 trip––during the party’s national executive in Patna––which has little political meaning. Mind it, it was on June 12,2010 that Nitish Kumar cancelledd the dinner for the BJP bigwigs though the JD(U) was sharing power with the BJP in the state.
