Distribute all gifts accepted in last so many years to people, Rabri asks BJP legislators

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former chief minister Rabri Devi on Monday asked the BJP legislators to distribute all the gifts accepted by them in the last so many years to the people of the state.

Reacting to the media after two members of the BJP in the Legislative Council, Sushil Kumar Modi, and Mangal Pandey, returned their gifts she asked: “There is no point in returning the gifts after first accepting it. Instead they should be distributed to the people if the BJP people are so much concerned about the masses. Why return just the gifts distributed this year, but all those they had accepted in the past so many years, even during their own tenure as the ministers.”

Apart from the two MLCs, none of the 53 saffron party MLAs returned the gift on Monday. Even Prem Kumar, the leader of opposition in the state Assembly, did not do so though SuMo had on Saturday tweeted that he would be doing so.

Deputy CM Tejaswi Prasad Yadav too raised the same points, stating as to why, in the first place, were the gifts accepted by the BJP legislators. They used to do the same when they were in power.

Meanwhile, former deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi said that he had written to the chief minister Nitish Kumar asking him to end this practice of distributing costly gifts to the lawmakers. He also said that meetings of the Business Advisory Committees of both the Houses should be called in this regard.

The gift controversy has landed the BJP in a quandary as no other leader of the party are prepared to return them. This includes Prem Kumar and Nand Kishore Yadav.

In fact some of them have reportedly started using them. There is murmuring within the party over the manner in which the whole issue was tackled by Sushil Modi.
