Former BJP MP from Buxar Lal Muni Chaubey passes away

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former BJP MP Lal Muni Chaubey died after a prolonged illness at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Friday. He was 73.
He had a hip fracture a month ago and developed infection during surgery.
He represented Buxar parliamentary constituency four times in Lok Sabha from 1996 to 2009. It was in 2009 that he lost to RJD’s Jagdanand Singh by a slender margin of 2,000-odd votes.
Born in Purai under Chainpur block of Kaimur district he was elected to the state Assembly from Chainpur for four times.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar talked to his son, Shishir Chaubey, to expres his condolence.
State BJP chief Mangal Pandey, Union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan, Radha Mohan Singh, Ram Kripal Yadav, Giriraj Singh former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and Jitan Ram Manjhi and senior Bihar BJP leaders Sushil Kumar Modi, Nand Kishore Yadav, Prem Kumar and others condoled his death.
According to Pandey the cremation would be carried out at Varanasi on Saturday.
Chaubey was close to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was denied the party ticket in 2014. He had then raised a banner of revolt against the party and decided to contest election as an Independent. The BJP had then given ticket to its Bhagalpur MLA, Ashwini Chaubey, who now represents Buxar in Lok Sabha.
However, after much persuasion from the top leaders of the saffron party, including Narendra Modi, he withdrew from the contest. This saved the party from embarrassment.
Ever since then he had been keeping low profile.
