Will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice, Nitish vows in Lucknow

Patna,(BiharTimes): Three days after addressing a public meeting in prime minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar was in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s capital, Lucknow, where he urged his UP counterpart Akhilesh Singh to impose total prohibition.

But the killing of a 19-year old boy by the son of his party MLC on May 7 in Gaya and the shooting down of a senior Hindi journalist in Siwan on May 13 was very much in his mind. In the flow of his speech he went on to state that he would not rest till the culprits involved in these criminals incidents are brought to book.

“We all are deeply saddened and concerned about some incidents that took place. Strict actions are being taken,” he said adding “we won't rest until all those responsible are brought to justice.”

Nitish went on to claim that the crime rate has come down so has the number of accidents in over a month period since total prohibition was imposed in the state on April 5.

Incidentally, senior office-bearers of some journalist unions met Nitish during his day-long trip to Lucknow. They submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action against the guilty for Siwan killing, Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the kin of the slain scribe and government job to a family member.

The Bihar chief minister urged Prime Minister to completely ban liquor in all BJP-ruled states.
As in various speeches in Bihar he reiterated the benefits of total prohibition on the health of the people and society.

He tried to discount the fear that he is in UP for achieving political objective Nitish said that he was not here to disturb anybody.

“I am here to do what is right. I have done the same in Bihar and I can see its impact there,” he said.
“If you take Lohiaji’s name, then you should do something as well. Give up liquor,” he said hinting towards Mulayam, who claims to be a disciple of Ram Manohar Lohia.

“I heard that some people were trying to show me black flag. They can do what they want to because I don’t get affected by this,” the Bihar CM said.

He appreciated the role played by women in eradicating the liquor menace in Bihar and said that he had received invitation from different places, in particular the BJP-ruled Maharashtra.

Directly addressing UP CM he said: “Don’t worry Akhileshji. Ensure total prohibition. When liquor was banned in Bihar, people had problems for a few days. But, subsequently there was no problem.”
