What type of ‘Raj’ is in Gujarat, asks Lalu

Patna,(BiharTimes): Commenting on the killing of three persons in Diamond City of Surat, including the cousin of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Pravin Togadia, Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad Yadav questioned the law and order situation in Gujarat.

“What kind of governance (raaj) is here?” Lalu tweeted against the backdrop of the Jungle Raaj barb repeatedly hurled by BJP and a section of media.

Lalu had raised the same question when a TV journalist, Indradev Yadav, was killed in Jharkhand less than 24 hours before the murder of another journalist, Rajdeo Ranjan, at Siwan in Bihar.

On the other hand Janata Dal (United) spokesman Arun Srivastava not only flayed the BJP for what he called tarnishing the image of Bihar, but also criticized the media for not highlighting the murder in Surat. While responding to a question from Times Now anchor on Sunday evening he asked “Why are you not highlighting the killings in Surat.” When the anchor replied that the channel is showing it the JD(U) spokesman again quickly countered: “But where is that news.”

It needs to be recalled that Pravin Togadia’s cousin, Bhagat Togadia, along with two other persons were stabbed to death on Saturday night in Surat.

No doubt the media reported the incident, but given the fact that it was a high-profile killing the television channels paid much little attention for reason best known to them.

Reports from Surat quoting Police Commissioner, Ashish Bhatia, said extortion of money in connection with a piece of land in Amreli district was the prima facie reason behind the murders. The attackers allegedly used to extort money from Balu Hirani. The officer said the assailants had come to meet Hirani seeking Rs 50 lakh.

“These people were extorting money from Hirani and had come to meet him demanding Rs 50 lakh. When other victims, Bharat Togadia, Ashok Patel and Mahesh Radadiya tried to intervene, they attacked them with sharp weapons,” Bhatia said.

Pravin Togadia on Sunday attended the last rites of Bharat and demanded proper investigation into the matter.
