Conspiracy theory doing rounds as both the journalists killed in Bihar, Jharkhand were Yadavs

Patna,(BiharTimes): The curious aspect of the killing of senior journalist, Rajdeo Ranjan, is that on Monday the Rashtriya Janata Dal workers of Siwan demanded immediate action against those involved in the incident. This is something very strange as till now most media stories were one way or the toher pointing accusing finger towards the former party MP, Shahabuddin.

The party sources have their own view on the two killings which took place within 24 hours in Chatra in Jharkhand and Siwan in Bihar. Both Indradev Yadav, alias Akhilesh Pratap Singh, the TV journalist of Jharkhand, and Rajdeo Ranjan were Yadavs.

Though analyzing any story of murder of journalists on the basis of caste would not be appropriate, yet in the stratified society there is no dearth of people who give different meaning to different developments.

Though reports suggest that the two persons arrested in Jharkhand have link with the Maoists yet many within the RJD see a conspiracy in the murder of the two backward caste journalists.

“It may be a conspiracy to eliminate backward caste journalists (read Yadavs) in the field where there is complete domination of the upper castes,” a senior journalist told BiharTimes.

Political observers are of the view that by quickly agreeing for the CBI inquiry chief minister Nitish Kumar has actually gambled. It may be that the state government does not want to take the headache as the incident is not so simple. The killing has really raised several serious question.

Anyway by ordering CBI probe within a day after being demanded by family members the Nitish Kumar government has provided an opportunity to Grand Alliance leaders in Bihar to target the BJP government in Jharkhand, which is yet to take any such decision.

As in Bihar journalists are on warpath in Jharkhand too. This is simply because Indradev is the fourth scribe to be killed in Jharkhand since 2000. It was in that year that the new state was carved out from Bihar. And the killers in all three cases are roaming about freely. Needless to say the BJP has been in power for maximum number of years since 2000.

Even in the 15 years of Lalu-Rabri rule not so much journalists were killed in Bihar.

A Hindi journalist was killed in Bihar about eight years back during the bigh time of Susashan in Samastipur district.

There is another feeling within a strong section of the ruling alliance. They agree that Rocky committed a heinour crime, but hasten to add that this was not the first case of road rage in the country. In several cases, even in Delhi, those involved are yet to be punished, though they are not as powerful as Rocky’s parents. A television channel did a programme on such incidents.

Yet in the Gaya case not only Rocky, but his father and mother had to go to jail, though in different cases.

“Has any such thing happened in India? Yet media is saying that no action has been taken. In fact Bindi Yadav was arrested the very next day of the crime,” is the common refrain within the party.

So if Nitish Kumar, Lalu Yadav and Tejaswai are speaking out so much against the media they are in one way or the other representing this feeling of helplessness among a strong section of Yadavs.

In Rocky’s case one is reminded of King Lear’s famous line: “I am a man. More sinned against than sinning.” (William Shakespeare, King Lear)
