Bihar doctor receives extortion letter for Rs 50 lakh with live cartridge

Patna,(BiharTimes): The owner of Patna-based Ruban Diagnostics Centre, Col (Retd) Dr A K Singh, has received an extortion letter demanding Rs 50 lakh. The letter also carried a live cartridge.

The letter, kept outside the diagnostic centre, was addressed to “Captain Ruban family”. It was first discovered by the son of the landowner of the building at 6.30 AM on Thursday (May 19). He put it on the registration table thinking it to be a pathological sample. When one of the staff was collecting the samples to send them to the laboratory, he got suspicious with the envelope. When the employees opened the envelope they found a letter and cartridge.

The letter threatened the doctor of dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount.

The letter was handwritten and said to be written by one Dhanshyam Bharti alias Rohit Kumar, MD of Jai Shitla Mata Construction Company.

The sender seems to have used fictitious name, said Dr Singh.

As the health-care centre is situated in Kankarbagh, an FIR has been lodged with the Patrakar Nagar police station.

Dr Singh said that he had informed DIG, Patna range, Shalin about the letter.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Manu Maharaaj, visited his house to inquire about the incident.

The DIG said security has already been provided to Dr Singh and efforts are on to find out the culprit.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the letter was sent from a post office nearby.
