Fair Bihar board exam takes toll on matric results; girls fared badly in comparison to boys

Patna,(BiharTimes): The fair matriculation examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board has its toll in the result as it witnessed a 28.57 per cent fall in the successful students.
Only 46.6 per cent of those who appeared in the examination passed this year against 75.17% in 2015.
The pass percentage of boys was 54.44, which was almost 17% more than that of girls–– 37.61%.
This is among lowest in the last few decades.

As there was a widespread reporting by the media of mass practice of unfair means in 2015 examination the authorities decided to crack the whip this time.
Experts are of the view that the low pass percentage is a reflection of the deteriorating standard in Bihar in the last few years.

Babita Kumari and Trisha Tanvi of Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya jointly topped the state with 96.6% marks. The second position was shared by Komal Kumari, Abhinav Sharma and Madhukar Kumari with 96.4% marks while Divya Jyoti and Priyanka Kumari secured the third rank with 96.2% marks.

All the top 10 position was occupied by this Jamui-based school established on the pattern of Netarhat which now went into Jharkhand.

More than 8.21 lakh, that is over 53% students, failed in this year’s exam.

Only 10.86% examinees were able to secure a first division this time as against 21.45% students last year. The result of 1,669 students is pending.

The Board will conduct compartmental exams in August.

Education minister Ashok Choudhary, while announcing the result said till last year, the Board used to hold compartmental exam in two subjects, but, this year, students will be allowed to appear at three subjects. Also, when their final results will be published in September, they will be given a division and grade, unlike last year.

True the state government built many school buildings, distributed bicycles to students and appointed para-teachers in the last one decades, but what it could not do is to stem the deterioration in the standard of education.
