Bihar govt seeks ‘constructive suggestions’ on modifications
of prohibition law

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Nitish Kumar government has started seeking ‘constructive suggestions’ from people for modifications in the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act-2016. The process started on November 1 and suggestions would be accepted till November 12.

The excise department has published advertisements, appealing the people to send  ‘constructive suggestions’ on the new Act through letters, fax and e-mail to the department.

Making a climbdown chief minister Nitish Kumar said he would like to ask those terming the law as ‘draconian’ to specify the provisions they oppose and why, and suggest on how to make the law non-draconian. The winter session of legislature is approaching.

The state government had on October 2 issued fresh notification based on the new Act.

Earlier, the Patna high court had on September 30 stated the April 5 notification and the quantum of punishments were unenforceable.

The Supreme Court has since stayed the high court’s order in response to a petition by the state government.

The apex court on October 7 gave six weeks time to stakeholders to respond and four weeks to the government to file its rejoinder.
