SuMo calls for all-party meet on prohibition law

Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the state government has started seeking ‘constructive suggestions’ to modify the new excise law senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday demanded an all-party meeting to build a consensus on prohibition.

Clearing the confusion he said his party had always been in favour of the prohibition law, but it only opposes some draconian and Talibani provisions in the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016.

According to SuMo now that the state government is opening up to the idea of withdrawing some draconian provisions in the liqour law and there is likelihood that the Supreme Court would quash the excise law the state government has mooted amendment.

The former deputy CM described chief minister Nitish Kumar’s statement that he was open to suggestions on amendments to the prohibition law as a victory of the opposition.

Interestingly, the BJP leader claimed that prohibition, had failed in Bihar, despite stringent provisions. To substantiate his points he said three lakh litre of liqour has been seized and 18,000 people arrested in this regard.

He also questioned the state government for advertisements in newspapers soliciting suggestions for amendments to the liqour law and termed it a drama.
