Biharsharif prison officials dismissed for hosting party for jailed MLA Raj Ballabh

Patna,(BiharTimes): The then assistant superintendent of Biharsharif district jail, Ram Nandan Pandit, and wardens Ram Lakhan Yadav and Ramesh Kumar were on Friday dismissed by Inspector General  (Prisons) Anand Kishor on the charges of arranging feasts for Nawada MLA Rajballabh Yadav. The latter was in the prison for allegedly raping a minor girl at his residence in Nawada on February 6 last.

The feasts were arranged on March 22 and 23 on the occasion of Holi when the three jail officials, along with the then jail superintendent Motilal, called special cooks of MLA’s choice to cook mutton, ‘puri’ and sweet dishes inside the jail.

The IG (Prisons) had ordered an investigation after the incident was reported in the media.

Nalanda district magistrate Thiyagarajan SM, in his report, found that all the four flouted jail manual rules to provide special privilege to Raj Ballabh.

According to the district magistrate the jail superintendent misguided the district administration and other senior authorities that chicken was served inside jail. Investigations revealed that mutton was cooked on the two days. It was a feast given to other inmates by the four jail officers on behalf of the accused MLA. The cook from outside prepared the dishes against the jail manual and it was also not entered into the jail register.

A departmental inquiry against the jail superintendent is on before taking action as he is a gazetted officer.
