Nitish, Tejaswi back drive against black-money, but Sharad questions timing

Patna: Bihar Both chief minister  Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Tejaswi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday backed the Union government’s decision to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

However, former JD(U) chief and party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav raised questions over the timing of the decision. He said that this decision had been taken at the height of the marriage and harvesting season and the poor would be hit hard.

Nitish said that people are likely to face difficulties during initial days, but, by and large, it would benefit the country.

However, he went on to add that it is his understanding that the country’s economy would be benefited by the decision.

Tejaswi said he would support any decision taken to curb black money in the country.

But he cautioned that the Union government should also make necessary arrangements at banks so that common people do not suffer.
