Govt, private construction works hit by scrapping of currency notes

Patna,(BiharTimes): Thanks to the National Green Tribunal’s September 16 order banning construction of all government buildings exceeding the area of 20,000 square metres the impact of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes is not so much in Bihar, so far construction works in the government sector are concerned.

Yet there are several other government works which have been assigned to contractors, who are facing problems. The state government is  gearing up to organize the 350th birth anniversary of the last Sikh Guru, Govind Singh.

However, the private construction business have come to a virtual standstill because of shortage of notes in the market. In many cases the works have been abruptly suspended.

It must be recalled that works have stopped on Bihar Museum, International Convention Centre, Annexe Building of Vidhan Sabha, Police Bhawan etc because of the NGT order.  Now if the NGT lifts total ban the work could not start because the contractors would not be able to pay wages to labourers.

Anyway the daily wage earners are the worst affected lot after the Narendra Modi government’s decision. They have been rendered jobless.
