Bodhgaya Biennale from 17th December





Patna,(BiharTimes): The first edition of the Bodhgaya Biennale will recreate the magic through an ‘International Art Exhibition’ from December 17-23 at Sujata Vihar in Bodhgaya. This event is being organized by CANVAS, a pioneer art organization based at Patna. As the name suggests the event Bodhgaya Biennale would be organized once in every two years. This is going to be one of the biggest art activity in state of Bihar.

Chanchal Kumar, Patron of the event ‘Bodhgaya Biennale’ said while addressing a press conference said that the biennale is a curated exhibition and the very theme of the biennale is “Urgency of Peace in Contemporary Times”." Therefore, art-works such as paintings, graphics, prints, video, photographs & sculptures of eminent national & foreign artists shall be exhibited in the event " he added. Besides, during the event films & documentaries on art and artists will be shown; inter-active sessions on different topics of art both conventional & contemporaries by eminent speakers/artists shall be organized" he further said. Artists as well as connoisseur of art present in the audience shall have the opportunity to interact with the speakers and artists.

"Bodhgaya is an important tourist destination not only for Bihar but for whole of the world, where millions of tourist from all across the world visit every year. Highlighting the importance of the place - Bodh Gaya, which is not merely historically but culturally very rich and pluralistic in character" Chanchal Kumar said and announced the names of some eminent participating artists such as Vivan Sundaram, Balan Nambiar, Veer Munshi, Goutam Ghosh, Himmat Shah, P. R. Daroz, Dhraj Choudhary, Anil Risal Singh, Prashant Panjiar, Richard Cocks (U.K.), Sabrina Osborn (U.K.), Michael Snider, (Austria), Rukkaya Sultana (Bangladesh) etc.

Ganga Kumar, the Chairman of the event told that artists of eminence from around thirty countries would participate in the gala event; just to name a few are Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Austria, Cuba, Egypt, Finland, Spain, Turkey, U.S.A., England, Korea, Norway, Thailand, Japan etc.

The Artistic Director, Vinay Kumar narrated in details about the structure of biennale and added ‘Bodhgaya Biennale’ is expected to bring the necessary momentum to the contemporary art of Bihar through this event. Our native artists will get an opportunity to interact with both national and international artists; which will add a new dimension to the contemporary art. Eminent Art-Critics would also participate with their views on the exhibit vis-à-vis contemporary art both in English & Hindi; which would enlighten the artists in particular and art-lovers in general. He also told that Consulate Generals of some of the participating countries would attend the event.

The Regional Director of ICCR Shatrughan Sinha said that the council is also a part in organizing the event. He emphasized that the biennale would definitely create a platform for necessary discourse between native artists and the renowned ones; which will enrich the contemporary art & artists of the state enormously.
