Rajgir Mahotsva likely to be hit by demonetization

Patna,(BiharTimes): After the lacklustre start of Sonepur Cattle Fair on the first day on Monday the Rajgir Mahotsva too is likely to be hit by the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

The three-day Mahotsva is to be inaugurated on November 25.

Sources feared that it may attract less domestic and foreign tourists.

The harassment faced by the tourists, especially from foreign countries, at Bodh Gaya after the demonetization has discouraged many of them to plan a trip to Rajgir.

Though reports from Rajgir said that the Nalanda district administration and the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) have made full preparation for the internationally acclaimed Mahotsva, it is feared that the number of attendants would be much less.

Meanwhile, reports from Sonepur said that the business on the opening day of Cattle Fair evoked a poor response because of the November 8 decision.

There is hardly any buyers for cows and horses as well as other items.

Next month the state is to organize the 350th birth anniversary of the Guru Govind Singh.
