Janata Dal (United) suspends four state units

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Janata Dal (United) has suspended its Delhi,Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal state units following therebellious stand taken by the heads of these states.Thakur Balbir Singh, Govind Yadav, Pramod Sharma and Amitabh Dutta are presidents of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal respectively.

The action came hours after these four leaders organized a Press conference in New Delhi on Friday and questioned the election of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar as the national president of Janata Dal (United) last April.

What is interesting is that Govind Yadav is the leader who, while speaking in the National Council meet in Patna’s Shri Krishna Memorial Hall on April 23 showered praise on Nitish. Janata Dal (United) sources from New Delhi told BiharTimes that in all eight state presidents assembled on September 20 to criticize the way Nitish Kumar was elected as the party chief.

However, four of them backed out the same evening after the party leadership showed signs of cracking the whip. But the remaining four state presidents remained defiant.

Sources said that these state presidents have been occupying the posts for last many years, a couple of them from the day the party was formed two decades back. A senior party leader denied that they have anything to do with the former party chief Sharad Yadav.

These four units, according to party insiders, have failed to fulfill the criteria laid down by the new party organization. They failed to enroll members as they were instructed by the party leadership. It is only after Friday’s Press conference that the party secretary general, K C Tyagi, suspended these four units.
