Eminent journalist Farzand Ahmad passes away






Patna,(BiharTimes): Renowned journalist and former Information Commissioner of Bihar, Farzand Ahmed, died of cancer in Lucknow early on Sunday morning. He was 68 and is survived by two daughters and a son, Nayyar Azad, who works for Deccan Chronicle in Patna.


His wife died about a decade back. Farzand, who started his career from UNI, was born on June 15, 1948. He started his career after doing MA in English from Patna University. He joined ‘India Today’ in mid-1970s, when it was launched, and worked for more than three decades, both in Patna and Lucknow. He retired as Senior Editor of the magazine.


After his retirement he was made Information Commissioenr by the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar. He also served as the adviser to the UP government.He originally hailed from Gopalganj district of Bihar.


With the death of Farzand an era of journalism in Bihar came to an end. Several journalists trained by him now occupy important posts in various electronic and print media.


After his retirement he would occasionally contribute articles to various newspapers.
