Kothi SHO shot dead by suspect ex-Sunlight Sena men-turned criminals

Patna,(BiharTimes): The station house officer of Kothi police station under Sherghatty sub-division of Gaya district was shot dead early on Monday morning.

Six motor-cycle borne criminals, who came in three motor-cycles, fired at Qayamuddin Ansari, 35, a 2009 batch officer. Reports said he died on the spot.

Qayamuddin was from Alinagar village of neighbouring Aurangabad district. Sources told BiharTimes that the hands of former Sunlight Sena men, who later became criminals, can not be ruled out as Qayamuddin had a running battle with them.

Sunlight Sena is an anti-Naxal group which came up in early 1990s. However, it gradually faded away and many of its activists were killed by the Maoists. Several others took to crime. Kothi falls in the Imamganj Reserved Assembly constituency, which is now represented by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. Imamganj and Dumaria blocks of Gaya, along with Aurangabad and Chatra and Palamu districts of Jharkhand were  the scenes of blood-letting between Sunlight Sena and Maoists in early 1990s.
