Bihar hikes Cable TV tax

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar cabinet on Wednesday approved a commercial taxes department’s proposal to hike entertainment tax on cable TV.

Cable TV operators will now have to pay Rs 50 per/subscriber every month as entertainment tax against Rs 15 currently paid by them.

There are about four lakh cable TV subscribers in Patna alone. The average monthly cable TV charge in Patna varies from Rs. 250 to 350, which includes Rs 92 as the base charge, on which the local cable
operators charge 65% as their commission.

Bihar has already increased VAT on several goods after the imposition of total prohibition last April. This move is also being seen in this light.
