BJP leaders blame prohibition for delay in payment of teachers’ salary, pension

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though the delay in payment of salaries of teachers is a regular phenomenon in Bihar the Bharatiya Janata Party held total prohibition responsible for it.

Senior party leader Sushil Kumar Modi said on Sunday that the state government has not paid salary and pension to over 40,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of various universities and colleges of the state for the last four months, even though the festival season is on.

According to him the government has also not paid social security pension to 63 lakh beneficiaries, including the old, widows and Divyangs for the last seven months despite the Centre allotting funds for it.

The former deputy chief minister, also held the portfolio of finance ministry for eight and a half years said imposition of prohibition in the state since April 5 has deprived the state government of tax benefits and has thus adversely affected the economy of Bihar.

SuMo also charged the state government with parking the social security money in the banks to earn interest on it on the plea that the money would be paid to the beneficiaries once their bank accounts are opened. This is being done notwithstanding the fact that the Centre has made it clear that it has no objection to the payment of social security pension to the beneficiaries even before the opening of their bank accounts.

On the other hand the leader of opposition in state Assembly Prem Kumar clarified that the BJP and other NDA constituents are not opposed to prohibition but they are only critical the draconian aspects of the excise law.

He maintained that the state government had failed to impose complete prohibition in the state.
