Nitish wanted to give ticket to Hina Shahab in election: Sushil Modi

Patna,(BiharTimes): Better late than never. Former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday claimed that it was under the pressure of the BJP that chief minister Nitish Kumar’s party dropped the idea of giving ticket to Hina Shahab, the wife of jailed ex-RJD MP, during the 2009 Lok Sabha election.

The BJP leader made this disclosure while replying through his advocate Akshay Amritanshu to a legal notice sent to him by the JD(U), asking him either to prove his statement with evidence or face a defamation suit.

The spokesman and MLC of JD(U) Neeraj Kumar had sent the notice on September 20. “Our client (Sushil) stands by his statement that Nitish wanted to induct Hina in the JDU and field her as a party candidate during the 2009 general elections.

“The manner in which the state government helped Shahabuddin in obtaining bail and neglected presenting facts against him in the court also proves this,” the reply to the JDU’s legal notice said. It also charged that the JD(U) never had any reservations against people with a criminal background, and claimed it was Sushil’s moral responsibility to bring the deficiencies of the government to light. "He (Sushil) is not going to be afraid of his duty due to the threat of litigation. A befitting reply will be given if a case is filed against him," the reply added.

However, independent political observers are surprised as to why it took more than three years after the collapse of BJP-Jd(U) alliance for SuMo to highlight this important fact.  Ater all the two parties ran the government together for eight and a half years. “Political compulsion might have prevented the BJP from raising such issues when in power. But why not these facts were highlighted during the 2014 Lok Sabha and 2015 Assembly elections. After all it was Sushil Modi, who was earlier the strongest supporter of Nitish Kumar on the law and order front,” asked an analyst.
