State govt yet to challenge NGT order on construction of big buildings

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though work in several important government projects in Patna and its vicinity, for example Bihta, have come to a standstill the state government is yet to challenge the September 16 order of National Green Tribunal (Eastern Bench)  banning construction of buildings that cover more than 20,000 square metres of built-up area.

The NGT had also ordered re-constitution of the Patna Metropolitan Planning Committee (PMPC) as it felt that most members lack technical expertise for the work.

As reported the projects that have been hit by the Tribunal order are International Convention Centre, Bihar Police Bhavan, Vidhan Sabha  annexe buildin,g, Bihar Museum etc in Patna and several educational institutions in Bihta.

According to urban development and housing department principal secretary Chaitanya Prasad so far the state government has not decided when and how the government will move against the NGT order. No meeting on it has been called so far. It has been seeking advice of more experts on the matter.

He defended the state government’s move of constituting the PMPC, terming it to be legitimate. It was formed adhering to all the prescribed rules and the Constitution of India as two-thirds of its members are elected representatives
