Muzaffarpur KV students protest suspension of principal, transfer of teachers

Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the district magistrate, Dharmendra Singh, tried to calm down students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Muzaffapur, a section of boys and girls of the school protested for the second day on Friday against the suspension of the principal of the school, Rajiv Ranjan, and transfer of 14 other teachers, including the vice principal, and one other official of the school.

The students were in particular angry over the news that the principal would now be arrested as a case under SC/ST atrocities act has been lodged against him as well as the two brothers who assaulted the Dalit boy of Class-XII on August 25. The brothers are already in police custody.

The case was filed by the maternal grandfather of the victim.

The students who took to streets on Thursday and Friday demnded immediate reinstatement of all the teachers as, according to them, they were not responsible for the crime committed by two students. They even tried to block the vehicular traffic. “Are the SP and DSP arrested for any crime in the area of their jurisdiction,” they shouted in chorus.

These students were upset over the arrival of the BJP leader, Sushil Kumar Modi, on the school campus on Wednesday and accused him of giving a Dalit colour to the whole episode for purely political reason.

The suspension and transfer order have come on the directive of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), New Delhi.

As reported the inquiry committee headed by assistant commissioner of KVS-Patna, M.L. Mishra, had recommended stern action against the principal and teachers for, what it called, “deliberate attempt” to suppress the matter and keep higher authorities in the dark.

Media reports suggest that some of these transferred teachers had been working in Muzaffarpur for many years––as high as 15.

Besdies, sources said that most of the transferred teachers were part of the school-level disciplinary committee.

Incidentally, some of the guardians also lent support to the students’ demand as they are of the view that transifer of teachers at this stage would hamper the study of their children as examinations are due to be held early next year.

On Thursday a delegation of guardians met the newly appointed principal, Santosh Kumar N, and submitted a memorandum seeking revocation of Rajiv Ranjan’s suspension and a stay on the transfer of the teachers.
