Thanksgiving letters from agitating castes elate JD(U)

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Janata Dal (United) leadership is happy that the organisations of Jat, Patel, Maratha, Kapu, Gujjar and Vokkaliga castes have separately sent thanksgiving letters to the party president, Nitish Kumar for lending support to their demand of reservation under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.

These organisations also expressed their desire to felicitate Nitish, who is also Bihar chief minister.
There are reasons for  JD(U) leaders to feel elated at this development as most of these caste groups support the Bharatiya Janata Party. Now efforts are on to wean these castes away from the saffron party.

But the problem with the JD(U) is that most of these backward castes, especially of Marathas, do not have cordial relationship with Dalits. This is when Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar does not want to lose
the Dalit votes in his state and elsewhere too.

However, the recent development in which the Patels of Gujarat supported the cause of Dalits of Una, provided some relief to JD(U). However, some political observers are of the view that the JD(U) is not going to be benefited with the letter of appreciation by the leaders of the respective states.

“It is the Congress or regional parties of the respective states, which are going to be benefited and not Janata Dal (United). Such letters have no political meaning,” said a commentator.
