Court convicts 15 in Senari massacre case of 1999





Patna,(BiharTimes): The court of additional district and sessions judge-III, Jehanabad. Ranjeet Kumar Singh, on Thursday convicted 15 people for their involvement in the infamous Senari massacre case of March 18, 1999.

Thirty-four Bhumihars, between the age of 15 and 45 were systematically slaughtered in the village late on that fateful night in Senari, which is now part of the newly carved out Arwal district.

The court, however, acquitted 233 other accused for lack of evidence.

The perpetrators were the members of the armed squad of outlawed Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) now called as CPI (Maoist).

The court has fixed November 15 to pronounce the quantum of punishment.

On the night of March 18, 1999 hundreds of MCC men dragged 34 people from their homes to a temple and slit their throats.
