Ornaments worth Rs 1,100 crore sold in Bihar on Dhanteras day

Patna,(BiharTimes): Ornaments worth Rs 175 crore were sold in Patna on the day of Dhanteras on Friday.

According to the president of the Bihar unit of Swarnkar Samaj Vikas and Shodh Sansthan Arun Kumar Verma the overall sale in Bihar was Rs 1,100 crore. This is 15 to 20 per cent more than last year.

However, he added that it was less than expected. They were expecting sales in the range of Rs 2,000 crore in the state. He said several customers preferred to buy silver idols, gold rings, chains and pendants instead of heavy jewellery. The price of gold varied between Rs 30,200 and Rs 32,700 per 10 gram.

Gems was less in demand as traditionally Hindus buy metals on this ‘auspicious occasion’.

A large number of people thronged shops selling electronic goods, TVs and washing machines. Many of them simply wanted to exchange their gadget with the latest model in the market.

The latest mosquito repellent LED TV was also sold in the market. Ultra sonic waves have been used to nake this TV which repels mosquitoes. Though costly yet it had a few buyers. The largest set is priced at Rs 10.5 lakh.

Car sales also went up by over 15 per cent against last year.

Several traders offered discounts on sale of precious metals and stones to lure customers.

Utensils were also much in demand by rich, no so rich and poor.

But the real estate evoked lukewarm response  as few builders booked new projects.
