Bihar 21st, Gujarat 14th, Jharkhand last in condition of sanitation

Patna,(BiharTimes): Notwithstanding so much media coverage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission the performace of the BJP-ruled state is worst.

While the third largests state, Bihar, is placed 21st the much sparsely populated Jharkhand comes last in a list on the condition of sanitation in rural areas of 26 states.

Prime Minister’s home state, Gujarat, has nothing to boast of either as it has been ranked 14th.

The tiny state of Sikkim has been declared cleanest.

The survey was carried out in 2015 by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) and its report was released in New Delhi on Thursday by rural development minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

After Sikkim, Kerala, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Meghalaya are among the top 10 cleanest states.

The BJP is in power only in Haryana and shares power with Akali Dal in Punjab.

Apart from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir have fared badly.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is ruling in five of the states that have been placed at the bottom of the list.
