Wanted shooter’s presence in Shahabuddin’s Press meet raises questions

Patna,(BiharTimes): A picture of wanted shooter Mohammad Kaif standing beside Mohammad Shahbuddin, while he was interacting with media after his released from Bhagalpur Jail on Saturday is doing rounds in a section of media.

Kaif’s presence at the occasion has raised several questions: As to how was he present at the spot? If he was a wanted criminal why was he not arrested in the last over 11 years when Shahabuddin was himself in jail?

His presence not only exposed the present administration, but also brought to notice the failure of the then Janata Dal (United)-BJP government, which made tall claims of smashing all the gansters in the state.

“How is it that shooters are still out of jail? Why the state government failed to destroy the war-machine of Shahabuddin in so many years?” asked an observer wishing not to be quoted.

As reported several cases against Shahabuddin were reopened after Nitish Kumar became chief minister in November 2005. Incidentally, he was first arrested in 2003 during the RJD reign itself, but got bail only to be arrested again two years later.

But in all these years he not only managed to get bail in one case, but in others too––some of them very serious. This was just the last one. So it is not the case of the state government failing this time, but even in the past too, feels an analyst.
