No Bihar town in Smart Cities'  list

Patna,(BiharTimes): Three cities of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh and two of Punjab figured in the list of 27 selected under the Smart Cities scheme of the Union government. No city from Bihar found their place in the third list though the names of Muzaffarpur and Biharsharif were sent to the Union urban development department.

The names were announced by the Union urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi on Tuesday.

However, the names of Varanasi, prime minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, Kanpur and Agra also figured in the the list.

So far 60 cities have been included, while the names of the rest 40 may be announced next year.

Two cities of Punjab, the other states which goes to poll in 2017, have been included in it. They are Amritsar and Ludhiana.

According to Chatanya Prasad, principal secretary, Urban development department, the names of Muzaffafpur and Biharsharif were sent while that of  Patna would be sent next time.

Analysts are of the view that the inclusion of names in Smart Cities list have more to do with the politics. That may be one of the reasons for the exclusion of Bihar.
