Truckers block roads in protest against new sand policy

Patna,(BiharTimes): Truckers of Bihar on Tuesday blocked National and State Highways at various places in the state in protest against the new sand policy of the Nitish Kumar government. The agitation paralyzd the movement of traffic in many places, including Patna.

Truckers had launched the state-wide indefinite strike on Monday midnight.

A large number of labourers also joined the protest, said a police source. The protesters torched a hutment used by police personnel for shelter near Saguna More and a police bike in Maner in Patna district.

Reports said that they pelted stones at Danapur SDO Sanjeev Kumar when he was passing near Maner block. Violence was also reported on Shivala-Bihta Road.

According to Patna zonal IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan the transporters created disturbances mainly in Bhojpur and Patna districts. This is obviously because most of the sand mining is done from river Sone.

The president of Bihar Truck Owners' Association Bhanushekhar Prasad Singh said there is no logic to fix e-lock on open trucks.
