Lalu, Congress welcome Nitish’s latest stand on note ban

Patna,(BiharTimes): Welcoming Bihar chief minister’s latest statement on demonetization RJD chief Lalu Prasad said Nitish Kumar had never blindly supported demonetisation. He had sought time to make up his mind on the issue. Now, he has realised that note ban has been implemented in a mismanaged way and has supported what Manmohan ji has said.

The state Congress too had welcomed the chief minister’s statement given recently in New Delhi.

“We heartily welcome Nitish Kumar for eventually appreciating the hard reality of demonetisation and toeing the line of economist and our former PM (Manmohan) who had sensed its disastrous consequences quite early and had described it as a monumental mismanagement,” state Congress chief spokesman Harkhu Jha, said in a statement.

Nitish had also echoed Manmohan Singh in terming note ban as a “monumental management failure” at a function on Friday in New Delhi to release former Union finance minister P Chidambaram’s book: “Fearless in Opposition: Power and Accountability”.

Independent political observers are of the view that Nitish Kumar never went all out in supporting note ban. He had always added a rider in his statement. But the media in general one-sidedly overplayed it as a support to PM Narendra Modi’s November 8 announcement.

Many journalists went on to interpret it as Nitish’s move to drift back to the BJP.

Interestingly, former Janata Dal (United) president, Sharad Yadav, continued to attend all the anti-demonetization protests in New Delhi and even raised the issue in Rajya Sabha.
