Third IAS officer to face action within seven months

Patna,(BiharTimes): Sudhir Kumar, who was arrested on the midnight of Thursday-Friday is the third incident of action against IAS officers in Bihar in the last seven years.

The then Mohania SDO in Kaimur district Dr Jitendra Gupta, an IAS officer of 2013 batch, was arrested on July 12 last year and subsequently suspended by the state government a week later on the charges of taking bribe from truck drivers.

The stategovernment, however, revoked his suspension on September 2 following grant of bail to him by Patna high court on August 9. The IAS Officers’ Association of Bihar had met the chief minister Nitish Kumar then and submitted a memorandum over the arrest. They were upset over the manner in which he was arrested.

However, a retired chief secretary of Bihar and Jharkhand V S Dubey then expressed surprise over the IAS Officers’ Association’s stand.

Earlier on January 12 this year the 1991 batch IAS officer S M Raju was suspended by the state government after an FIR was lodged against him by the state vigilance investigation bureau on November 29 last year for alleged irregularities in disbursement of post-matric scholarship among SC/ST students pursuing technical education outside Bihar.

As he has not yet been arrested the Association did not raise any voice against the state government’s action.

Sudhir Kumar was arrested in the question paper leak scam as he was the chairman of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission.

The Association reacted sharply and flayed the manner in which he was arrested.
