RJD, JD(U) in a fix over UP development

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though on New Year’s day Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad

appeared upset over the removal of Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Samajwadi Party’s national president yet both he and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar seem to be in a bind over the situation in Uttar Pradesh.

Lalu was a bit disturbed because only a day earlier he, brokered a peace between SP supremo and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

But the political development in Uttar Pradesh is being closely watched by ruling alliance in Bihar because they do not want to see the BJP get back to power in that state.

RJD, in particular, has more at stake. Lalu has a relation with Mulayam’s family. Besides, like Samajwadi Party the Rashtriya Janata Dal too is a sort of family affair. Many political observers fear that what is happening in SP today may happen in RJD in future.

After all Lalu is not in the best of his health. He had, no doubt, established his sons and a daughter. Yet he has more to do in this direction.

On the other hand is the situation of Janata Dal (United). Party chief Nitish Kumar had over the months cultivated his relationship with Ajit Singh’s Rashtrya Lok Dal. Talks were held for RLD-JD(U) alliance coming up in UP. It is being said that some Jats have got disillusioned with the BJP and they are likely to move to RLD.

But now there are reports that Akhilesh is trying to rope in Congress and RLD into a Bihar type mega or grand alliance. If this idea really clicks what would happen to JD(U) and Nitish’s efforts in UP.

It is true that the days of Mulayam are numbered and Akhilesh should be projected as the CM. There is a feeling in Grand Alliance that Akhilesh is most likely to win too as the BJP has no state level leader to counter his influence. Yet the Grand Alliance, especially Lalu, never wanted the UP CM to treat Mulayam the way he was treated on New Year’s day.

They are just waiting anxiously for next turn of events as talks are now on for another compromise between father and son.
