Various Boards, Commissions headless in Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Most of the Boards and Commissions in Bihar are headless for the last several months as the state government has not yet constituted them after dissolving them. This includes Women’s Commission and Bihar State Linguistic and Religious Minorities’ Commission.

The Women’s Commission was for example dissolved on May 17, 2016 and is headless for the last eight months. The Chairperson then was Anjum Ara.

Reports said that the three constituents of the Grand Alliance government have not been able to come to the conclusion in this regard.

Various JD(U), RJD and Congress leaders are vying for different posts of chairmen and chairpersons.

As the three ruling parties have a lot of second and third rung leaders to accommodate the delay is natural.

But it is affecting the work at the ground level.

Women’s Commission is one of them. Formed by the then Rabri Devi government in 2001 it used to hear the complaints of hundreds of women annually––as high as over 1,600.

It used to hear and resolve domestic issues, such as marital discord, infidelity, dowry harassment, property rights etc.

Similarly, Minorities Commission is without any Chairman for last couple of years. All this is happening when the present state government claims to be the champion of minorities’ cause.
In the same way chief minister Nitish Kumar has always taken credit for empowering women of the state by increasing their representation in urban and rural local bodies and in the state government jobs.
