How demonetization helped country, Nitish asks Centre to explain

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though Bihar chief minister and Janata Dal (United)’s national president Nitish Kumar on Tuesday once again said that demonetization was a bold step against black money yet he demanded the Centre to share with the country how it benefited India’s economy.

“We in principle extended our support to the note ban as it was a brave initiative to curb black money and corruption. It was a good move and we continued to support it despite political rumours,” Nitish said while speaking at a function organised by JD(I)to commemorate former CM Karpoori Thakur on his birth anniversary.

However, Nitish hastened to add that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured the country to wait for 50 days. Now 77 days have elapsed. Therefore, his party  demands from the PM to explain the benefits of note ban.

The Bihar CM said the Union budget should contain details of the effects of demonetization.

Nitish said many workers, especially those not in organised sector, lost jobs due to economic slowdown following demonetisation. They did not express much discontentment as they thought note ban had a noble purpose.

Former party chier Sharad Yadav, who holds different view on note ban, was present at the dais.
