JD(U) two and a half times richer than RJD





Patna,(BiharTimes): Janata Dal (United) is the richest among the three prominent regional political parties of Bihar.

Alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal, which with 80 seats, has the largest number of seats in the state Assembly, is much poorer.

According to the report released on Sunday by the Association for Democratic Rights (ADR) on the known and unknown sources of income the total income of these three parties was computed on the basis of their accounted income over the last 11 financial years, beginning 2004-05 up to 2014-15.

It computed their income on the basis of their respective income tax returns and statements filed with the Election Commission. The combined income of the three parties from their known and unknown sources during the 11-year period was Rs 83.36 crore.

Of this Rs 54.12 crore is of the JD(U), to be followed by Rs 22.52 crore of the RJD and Rs 6.73 crore of the Lok Janshakti Party, which never came to power in Bihar.

Incidentally, the share of income accruing to the JD(U) from the unknown sources is also highest among the three political parties. Its total income from the unknown sources pertaining to the same period was Rs 38.78 crore (72 per cent), while its income from the known sources stood at Rs 14.26 crore and from other known sources of income at Rs 1.08 crore.

The corresponding figures with respect to the RJD are Rs 5.8 crore, Rs 6.25 crore and Rs 10.46 crore. The same for the LJP were Rs 4.87 crore, Rs 1.76 crore and Rs 0.1 crore.

However, JD(U) state president Bashishtha Narayan Singh said his party routinely files income tax returns every year. The income does not contain any ill-gotten money.
