Why and  how is SuMo coming up with old land deals of Lalu family?

Patna,(BiharTimes): Ever since April 4 senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has been highlighting a series of deals alleged to be made by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Incidentally, almost all these deals, according to the information provided by SuMo, were made when Lalu was the railway minister between 2004 and 2009. Not only that several land plots were even gifted to his children by some RJD leaders.

While SuMo alleged that they were gifted in exchange of ministerial berths to the person concern, for example, Kanti Singh, RJD sources were quick to rubbish the charge as she had become Union minister much before Lalu in 2004. Kanti had served in Deve Gowda and I K Gujral governments between 1996 and 1998 and the land was gifted to Lalu’s children many years later. Interestingly, another RJD leader Raghunath Jha also gifted one of his house to Lalu family as disclised by Modi.

Sushil Modi’s charges are subject to verification. But it raises several serious questions.

Why is it that he did not raise these issues between November 24, 2005 and June 16, 2013, when he himself was the second most powerful man in Bihar?

SuMo was all too powerful deputy chief minister-cum-finance minister of Bihar and had an excellent rapport with chief minister Nitish Kumar then.

Incidentally, sons and daughters of Lalu Prasad had become directors in most of these firms after his party lost disastrously in 2009 Lok Sabha election.

The period between 2009 and 2015 was the worst in over 40 years of his political career. He was convicted by the CBI court in September 2013.

Yet Lalu managed to have so much ‘clout’ in the ‘business’ circle or Was it a lean time to transfer "Benami properties" as alleged by Modi.

Sushil Modi continued to be the minister till June 16, 2013 yet he could not get any trace of such deals. Those were the days when the UPA-II was under attack from the BJP on corruption charges from all sides. 2G-Scanm, Coal Scam, Commonwealth Games Scam etc to name a few of them.

Anna Hazare and company were on warpath and the BJP was going all out against corruption. Had these issues been raised then it would have worked as the last nail in the coffin of Lalu’s political career.

So why Sushil Modi missed that opportunity. Or is it that he wanted to highlight them but somebody more powerful in the government prevented him from doing so.

All these issues lead to another more important question:

How is it that Sushil Modi was not aware of all these shell companies and ‘benami’ deals when he was in power and has full knowledge about them with full documents now when he is not only out of power but being sidelined in the party to some extent.

The unanswered question is: who from this government is providing all these information with documents to SuMo?

The answer may be known on the way the politics in the state unfolds.
