Centre withdraws Y-category from Pappu Yadav, Ashok Chaudhary

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Union home ministry on Saturday withdrew the Y-category security cover from Madhepura MP, Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav and Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Ashok Chaudhary, who is also the education minister of the state.

They received letters in this regard from the office of the Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The letters asked them to relieve personnel deployed for their security with immediate effect. Pappu was provided Y-category ahead of the Bihar Assembly election of 2015. Many political observers interpreted this as a ‘reward’ for rebelling against RJD chief Lalu Prasad after he joined hands with Nitish Kumar.

Ashok Chaudhary was provided Y-category security in 2013 during UPA rule following a threat perception. Both the leaders were allotted 10 armed commandos of the anti-Maoist CRPF and two personal security officers (PSOs) for round-the-clock security. They all have now returned to their units. Chaudhary described the Centre’s decision as politically motivated and said that there should be no discrimination on this issue between theleaders of the BJP and other parties.

However, he said the central government would be in a better position to reply on why his security cover was suddenly withdrawn. He added it is the central government which had last year upgraded his security from X to Y (threat).

On the other hand Pappu said he spoke to home minister Rajnath Singh over phone and told him about a threat to his  life as he has been raising issues of corruption and malpractices at different levels. According to him Rajnath has promised to restore his security.
