When JD(U) voted for Shekhawat who was set to lose; Shiv Sena for Marathi Manush

Patna,(BiharTimes): While rejecting the request to reconsider his decision on Presidential election Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar  asked: "Why push ‘Bihar ki Beti’ into a contest which she is set to lose?"

Independent political observers are surprised by his statement as several times in the past Nitish had himself supported candidates who were set to lose.

He asked why Meira Kumar was not put up as candidate in 2007 and 2012 elections.

What, according to analysts, Nitish failed to recall is that in 2007 it was he, who, while in the NDA, supported the candidature  of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, when he was set to lose.

Shekhawat, then the Vice President, contested the Presidential election as an Independent candidate with the backing of the NDA.

What is strange is that Shiv Sena, which is the oldest ally of the BJP, supported Congress party’s candidate, Pratibha Patil, as she was a Maratha.

In 2017 Nitish, who always talks about Bihari Smita, is not supporting the candidature of a Dalit Bihari candidate, whose profile, according to many in JD(U) itself, is much better than that of Ramnath Kovind.

After all Meira is the first Bihari to throw her hat after the first President Rajendra Prasad.

Nitish also talked about 2012 election. But in that election he backed Congress Party’s Pranab Mukherjee and not NDA’s P A Sangma, who after Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad was the first to contest from North-East. Incidentally, P A Sangma hailed from a Scheduled Tribe, yet, Nitish, still in NDA, did not back him.
