SuMo denies he is alone in his campaign against Lalu family

Patna,(BiharTimes): Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi claimed that he is not alone in the BJP, who is levelling charges of corruption in land deals of Lalu Prasad’s family.

However, in an interview to the Telegraph carried on May 3 he did not give the name of any central or state leader, who is backing him in his campaign.

To a question: “It seems that you have been ploughing a lonely furrow on this issue as till recently BJP state unit leaders had virtually been mum. Even central leaders have so far not uttered a word...” SuMo replied “I would like to say specifically that I have made all these revelations with the blessings of the central leadership and active support of the state unit of the party.”

To another question: “Did you inform party president Amit Shah and state-in-charge Bhupendra Yadav before speaking on this issue?” the former deputy chief minister said: “Instead of going into specifics I would repeat that I did this with the blessings of the BJP central leadership and active support of the state unit.”

He said that “ever since I made the first exposé, several people started approaching me with information about other properties being owned by Lalu and his family. Such information also came from people who are part of the state government. I chose to be cautious and spoke on such issues only after verifying the supporting documents.” Sushil Modi said he wants to exhaust his options at the state government-level first. The state government, if it has the will, can act in such cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act and also use the Bihar Special Courts Act, 2009.

“I have already written two letters to chief minister Nitish Kumar and intend to write a few more. I will approach the central agencies only after exhausting all other options. “If I approach these agencies directly, our political opponents would start claiming that with our government at the Centre, we are indulging in the politics of vendetta.”

To yet another question: “Why have you picked Lalu Prasad while levelling such charges whereas you seem to be going soft on the JD(U)?” the leader of opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council said: “This perception appears to be based on what has been happening in the recent past. If one looks back about our party’s stand in the past few months, one would find that we have been equally attacking JD(U) leaders on issues like toppers’ scam, medicine purchase scam, paper leak issue and irregularities in the Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour etc. There is no question of going soft on anyone.
